Minerals have been used in the treatment of human illness since the sixteenth century, when the Swiss physician Philippus Aureolus Paracelsus (1493-1541) changed the face of medicine by the application of chemistry.

Dr. Samuel Hahnemann (1755-1843), physician and founder of the Homoeopathic System extensively investigated the effects of certain minerals.  The clinical indications he obtained over a hundred years ago regarding their physiological role, parallels almost identically all the more recent findings of medical research.

Dr. Wilhelm Schüssler (1822-1898), another German Homoeopathic Physician,  after analysing the ash left from a burnt corpse, discovered it to consist of twelve mineral salts.  Further investigation showed that different organs and parts were made up of different minerals in different apportionments.  Schüssler concluded that these inorganic constituents are absolutely essential to structural integrity and functional activity and that any disturbance caused by deficiency would constitute disease, which could only be rectified by administering the same mineral salts in small quantities.  He began prescribing these salts at very low (homoeopathic) dosages.

In 1938, Dr. Maurice Blackmore (1906-1978), an Australian Naturopathic Physician, building upon the work of Schüssler, produced his own mineral salts in tablet form which he called Celloids® . Although Blackmore retained the same diagnostics as Schüssler, his tablets were made to a secret protocol that used different dosages to Schüssler’s.  Blackmore’s tablets are still produced the same way today (by Blackmores Ltd.) and are used by naturopaths and nutritionists worldwide.

In 1978, the Australian practitioner Dr Leslie Fisher introduced a new method of prescribing, that he had established after twelve years of clinical prescribing and observation. The method was based upon an hypothesis for the action of the salts, that whilst incorporating most of what Schüssler and Blackmore had established, also embraced the findings derived from his own clinical and hospital research, plus the more recent findings of medical research.

The method currently employed by Dr. Leslie Fisher is based upon a blend of traditional homoeopathic diagnostics, present day knowledge of biochemistry, and extensive clinical experience.

I have been very fortunate for having the opportunity to enjoy the teachings of Dr. Leslie Fisher during my studies at the Australian College of Natural Medicine (Melbourne Campus). To date I have remained in close contact with Les on a personal and professional basis and I wish to take this opportunity to thank Les for all his teachings, input, and professional support.
